Chesil Beach is the 18-mile long pebble bank stretching from Portland and running just offshore, joining the mainland at Abbotsbury.  It is the bank of pebbles that you can see from the site, separating the Fleet Lagoon or Little Sea from the open waters of Lyme Bay.
